PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR-BRAKES ENGAGED AFTER PEDAL RELEASED

ALL MODELS

Whenever a condition of the brake remaining on with foot off the brake is encountered, an initial check should be made to insure that this condition is not the result of a misadjusted cruise control cutoff switch or brake light switch. These switches which are mounted at the brake pedal could allow for partial brake engagement. To check for this condition, pull the brake pedal fully rear-ward against pedal stop. If an audible "click" can be heard, the switch is out of adjustment and may be the cause of the partial brake engagement. After audible "clicks" have stopped, the switch will be properly adjusted.

NOTE: A maximum rearward pedal load of 20-25 lb is to be used on all 1986 Parisienne wagons equipped with the powermaster brake system to prevent overadjustment of switches.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
