TYPE 'B' (DEFECTIVE SERVICE PARTS INSTALLED BY DEALER)

This bulletin supersedes bulletin 89-WA-3 issued 1/89. Please discard bulletin 89-WA-3.

Effectively immediately, Type "B" (Defective Service Parts Installed by Dealer) may be submitted via DCS for any GM vehicle.

In the past, these claims were processed through the zone office because the DCS Software would not accept a non-Pontiac vehicle identification number. The VIN will now be accepted by the software and is to be entered for any Type "B" claim. Non-DCS dealers should submit these claims on a Warranty Claims Document (7201-726).

The appropriate labor time allowance for the operation performed is to be obtained by referring to the Labor Time Guide and is to be submitted with Labor Operation T9000.

EXAMPLE: A Pontiac dealer replaces a water pump on a 1988 Chevrolet Cavalier with 70,000 miles. One month and 2,222 miles later, the owner returns to the dealer with the pump leaking and the dealer replaces the pump under a parts warranty. The time allowance of 2.0 hours for a 1988 Sunbird is obtained from the 1988 Labor Time Guide and is submitted with Labor Operation T9000 as shown below:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
