J 44809 Output Shaft Seal Installer

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1532261  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the right rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the right wheel drive shaft. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  4. Remove the differential output shaft oil seal (1).
  5. Do not damage the differential sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 630685  Size: SH
  1. Using the J 44809 , install the right axle shaft oil seal (1).
  2. Important: Inspect the sealing surface of the wheel drive shaft inner tri-pot housing to ensure it is free of corrosion. Use a crocus cloth in order to remove any light corrosion and clean the sealing surface with denatured alcohol, or equivalent.

  3. Lubricate the wheel drive shaft sealing surface of the oil seal with synthetic gear oil GM P/N 12378514 Canadian P/N 88901045 or equivalent.
  4. Install the right wheel drive shaft. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  5. Install the right rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  6. Inspect the differential lubricant level. Refer to Lubricant Change .
  7. Lower the vehicle.
