Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe one of the following Engine Oil Level parameters:
  4. • Engine Oil Level Switch parameter in the powertrain control module (PCM) Engine Data 2 data list-3.4L.
    • Engine Oil Level Switch parameter in the engine control module (ECM) instrument panel cluster (IPC) Data, data list - 3.6L.

Does the Engine Oil Level Switch parameter display OK?

Go to Step 3

Does the low engine oil level indicator remain illuminated after the displays test?

Go to Step 10

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the ECM/PCM connector C2.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the signal circuit of the engine oil level switch at the ECM/PCM and battery positive voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Test the signal circuit of the engine oil level indicator switch for an open, or for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Test the ground of the engine oil level indicator switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the ECM/PCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the engine oil level switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the ECM/PCM. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.

Replace the IPC. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.

Replace the engine oil level switch. Refer to Engine Oil Level Sensor and/or Switch Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.4L or Engine Oil Pressure Sensor and/or Switch Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.6L (LY7).

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
