  1. Coat the camshaft journals with clean engine oil.
  2. Coat the camshaft lobes with prelube GM P/N United States 12345501, GM P/N Canada 992704 or the equivalent.
  3. Install the camshaft using the following procedure:
  4. 3.1. Install a large screwdriver into the camshaft bolt hole for support. Do not damage the threads.
    3.2. Rotate the camshaft while installing the camshaft into the camshaft bearings.

  5. Install the camshaft thrust plate.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the camshaft thrust plate screws.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the camshaft thrust plate screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Install the camshaft position sensor.
  10. Install the camshaft position sensor bolt.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the camshaft position sensor bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
