Did you perform the Theft Deterrent Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the door key cylinder unlock and liftgate key cylinder, if equipped, unlock parameters in the body control module (BCM) Inputs data list.

Does each of the key cylinder unlock switch parameters display INACTIVE?

Go to Step 3

  1. With a scan tool, observe the door key cylinder unlock and liftgate key cylinder, if equippped, unlock parameters in the body control module (BCM) Inputs data list.
  2. Insert and rotate a key in each door key cylinder to activate each of the door key cylinder unlock switches.
  3. Insert and rotate a key in the liftgate key cylinder to activate the liftgate key cylinder unlock switch, if equipped.

Does each of the key cylinder unlock switch parameters display ACTIVE as the key is rotated?

If equipped, does only the liftgate key cylinder unlock parameter display INACTIVE?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the left front door lock assembly door key switch circuit connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Observe the door key cylinder unlock parameter in the BCM inputs data list.

Does the scan tool display INACTIVE?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the right front door lock assembly door key switch circuit connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Observe the door key cylinder unlock parameter in the BCM inputs data list.

Does the scan tool display INACTIVE?

Go to Step 14

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the liftgate key cylinder switch if equipped.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. If equipped with liftgate key cylinder, observe the unlock parameter in the BCM inputs data list.

Does the scan tool display INACTIVE?

Go to Step 14

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a 3-ampere fused wire between the suspect key cylinder switch harness connector signal circuit to the suspect key cylinder switch harness connector ground circuit.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the suspect key cylinder unlock parameter in the BCM inputs data list.

Does the scan tool display ACTIVE?

Go to Step 14

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a 3-ampere fused wire between the suspect key cylinder switch harness connector signal circuit to a good ground.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the suspect key cylinder unlock parameter in the BCM inputs data list.

Does the scan tool display ACTIVE?

Go to Step 13

Test the suspected door key cylinder switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the liftgate key cylinder switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the suspect key cylinder switch signal circuit for a short to voltage or for an open circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the suspect key cylinder switch ground circuit for a short to voltage or an open circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the suspect door lock assembly or liftgate key cylinder switch, if equipped. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the suspect door lock assembly or liftgate lock cylinder, if equipped. Refer to Front Side Door Lock Replacement in Doors or to Endgate Lock Cylinder Replacement in Body Rear End.

Important: When replacing the BCM, perform the setup procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.
