FALSE CODE 43 SET NEW SERVICE PROM P/N'S

1987 6000 MODELS WITH 2.8L V6 PFI ENGINES (VIN CODE W)

Some 1987 6000 models equipped with 2.8L V6 PFI engines (VIN Code W) may set a false Code 43. The false code will be set under a deep, part throttle crowd between 3400 and 4400 engine RPM. During this maneuver the "service engine soon" light will come on and generally will stay on until the ignition key is turned off. A Code 43 will be stored.

To service customer complaints, perform service diagnosis for Code 43 as defined in the Service Manual, Section 6E3, to correct any of the following conditions: faulty knock sensor, "intermittences," faulty connections, or open or shorted wiring problems.

If the condition can not be corrected with published service procedures, a new part number Mem-Cal will be required. The part numbers and model applications are shown in the chart.

Use applicable Labor Time and Operation Numbers.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
