CODE 13 OXYGEN SENSORS NEW DESIGN OXYGEN SENSOR

This bulletin supersedes bulletin 83-T-19 and should replace it in your file.

Oxygen sensor malfunctions have been experienced with some 1982 and 1983 Firebird, J2000, 6000, and Phoenix models equipped with the 1.8L and 2.5L EFI engines. A Code 13 is set when there is a loss of oxygen sensor output, which results in an open loop operation of the EFI system.

To correct this condition, a newly designed oxygen sensor produced after January 1, 1983, should be installed. The part number for the new sensor is 5613959. The new sensor should be used whenever replacement becomes necessary.

For all other applications, either 5613725 or 5613959 may be used.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
