Circuit/System Description

The rear window power sunshade motor contains the logic for extending or retracting the sunshade based on inputs received from the rear window sunshade switch. The switch is a momentary type. The motor activates the sunshade based on the inputs received from the switch. When the Ignition switch is in the ON position, Accessory position, or when retained accessory power (RAP) is active (key off), voltage is applied to the power sunshade control motor.

The sunshade motor assembly contains the reversible DC drive motor and the gear train used to move the shade material to the desired position. The motor also contains a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermal circuit breaker to protect the system from an overload.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, command the rear window sunshade to EXTEND/RETRACT by pressing the S60 rear window sunshade switch. The rear window sunshade should EXTEND/RETRACT as commanded.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S60 rear window sunshade switch.
  2. Test for less than 1 ohm between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, test for greater than 9V between the signal circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  5. If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance, if the circuit tests normal, replace the M44 rear window sunshade motor.
  6. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the S60 sunshade switch and disconnect the harness connector at the M44 rear window sunshade motor.
  7. Test for less than 1 ohm between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  8. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  9. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 3 and ground.
  10. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the ignition circuit fuse is open, replace the M44 rear window sunshade motor.
  11. If all circuits tests normal, test or replace the M44 rear window sunshade motor.

Component Testing

Rear Window Sunshade Switch

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S60 rear window sunshade switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal 1 and the ground terminal 2 with the switch in the open position.
  3. If not the specified value, replace the S60 rear window sunshade switch.
  4. Test for less than 2.0 ohms between the signal terminal 1 and the ground terminal 2 with the switch in the closed position.
  5. If greater than the specified range, replace the S60 rear window sunshade switch.
