Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

Brake Caliper Pin Bolt (Qty: 2)

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

Tighten
34 N·m (25 lb ft)

Front Brake Caliper

Tip
Without disconnecting the brake hose, position the brake caliper aside and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.

Brake Pad Spring (Qty: 2)

Procedure

  1. If installing new brake pads, DO NOT reuse the brake pad springs. Install NEW springs.
  2. If reinstalling the brake pads, inspect the brake pad springs for the following:
  3. • Bent mounting tabs
    • Excessive corrosion
    • Looseness at the brake caliper mounting bracket
    • Looseness at the disc brake pads
  4. If any of the conditions listed are found, the pad springs require replacement.

Tighten
115 N·m (85 lb ft)

Brake Caliper Bracket

Procedure

  1. If reinstalling the caliper bracket, thoroughly clean the brake pad hardware mating surfaces or the bracket of any debris and corrosion.
  2. Before reinstalling the caliper bracket, inspect the bracket to ensure it is not bent, cracked or damaged. If any of these conditions are found, the bracket requires replacement.
  3. Inspect the brake caliper guide pins for freedom of movement and inspect the condition of the guide pin boots. Move the guide pins inboard and outboard within the bracket bores without disengaging the slides from the boots, and observe for the following:
  4. • Restricted caliper guide pin movement
    • Looseness in the brake caliper mounting bracket
    • Seized or binding caliper guide pins
    • Split or torn boots
  5. If any of the conditions listed are found, the brake caliper guide pins and/or boots require replacement.
  6. Apply a very thin coating of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the pad hardware mating surfaces of the caliper bracket only.
