Special Tools

Caution: Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
2. Remove the beauty cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .



4. Disconnect the fuel inlet/outlet line from the fuel filter.
5. Disconnect the fuel heater and temperature sensor connector (1).
6. Disconnect the water in fuel sensor connector (2).
7. Remove the fuel filter assembly from the bracket by lifting upward.



8. Install EN-48303 and EN-48304 (2) to the fuel filter assembly.
9. Turn EN-48304 (1) counterclockwise.



10. Remove the fuel filter locker (5).
11. Remove the fuel filter cap (4) with the O-ring (1).

Important: Do not reuse the fuel filter element if the element is exposed to the air over a minute.

Important: The fuel filter cap includes the fuel heater and temperature sensor as one body. Also, the fuel filter housing includes the water in fuel sensor as one body.

12. Remove the fuel filter in the fuel filter housing (2).

1. Turn the water-in-fuel drain screw counterclockwise.
2. If finished, unscrew the drain screw reverse toward.
3. Perform the fuel priming procedure. Refer to Fuel System Priming .

Important: Do not touch the fuel filter element by hand to prevent fuel contamination.

1. Install the fuel filter into the fuel filter housing (2).
2. Install the fuel filter cap (6) with a new O-ring (1).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

3. Install the fuel filter locker (5) by using EN-48303 and EN-48304 .

Tighten
Tighten the fuel filter locker to 30 N·m (22.1 lb ft).




4. Install the fuel filter assembly to the bracket.
5. Connect the water in fuel sensor connector (2).
6. Disconnect the fuel heater and temperature sensor connector (1).
7. Connect the fuel inlet/outlet line from the fuel filter.



8. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
9. Install the beauty cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
10. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
