CLEARING PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM VISUAL INFORMATION CENTER

MODELS/YEARS 1990 TORONADO

The Visual Information Center (VIC) for the 1990 Toronado has a new procedure to clear personal messages. It is possible for messages to be programmed into the VIC prior to delivery to dealers and appear on the screen at a much later time without the new owner's knowledge of origin. The following procedure should be used by all dealers during new car delivery preparation to clear any stored messages prior to vehicle delivery.

Procedure:

1. From climate control display, press "Bi-Level" and "Cool" on the VIC screen at the same time and hold for approximately three seconds. This will bring up the owner personalization screen.

2. Press and hold "OK" and "CLR" simultaneously for another three seconds. This will bring up a confirmation screen asking if you are sure you want to erase the programmed events/reminder messages.

3. Press "Yes" to erase all programmed events/reminder messages. By performing the above procedure on all 1990 Toronado models equipped with a VIC prior to delivery, the dealer will avoid potential owner concerns of inappropriate message displays on new vehicles.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
