BOSE RADIO RATTLE RETURN RADIO TO REPAIR CENTER

BOSE RADIO RATTLE (RETURN RADIO TO REPAIR CENTER)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987-1988 'E/K' MODELS WITH 4.1L ----------------- AND 4.5L ENGINES (VIN 5,7,8)

Some 1987 and early 1988 Eldorados and Sevilles equipped with the Bose radio option may experience a condition of a "rattle" or "ticking" noise in the Instrument Panel/radio area while driving on rough roads. The rattle may be difficult to pinpoint to the Bose unit, but in some instances, pressing on the face of the radio below and to the right of the graphic display while driving will temporarily eliminate the noise.

This condition may be caused by a radio "light pipe rattle" (light pipes are the plastic bars that distribute the light source to the radio buttons behind the face plate). Delco Electronics has corrected the rattle, and radios with a serial number after 2004583 have the fix incorporated. The radio serial number (not the P/N 16058416) can be found on a sticker located on the right side of the radio unit.

Radio Serial Number Breakpoint: 20045830201

To repair this condition the radio must be removed and sent to an authorized AC Delco repair shop.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
