Subject:OnStar® Reactivation For Daily Rental Vehicles Purchased at Auction

Models:All OnStar equipped rental vehicles

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

This message deals with notification regarding daily rental vehicles purchased from auctions. This specifically involves vehicles with active systems and remaining OnStar® service (first year of service has not expired). These vehicles will require special handling in order for retail customers to obtain OnStar® service.

When an OnStar® keypress is made a message that "this service is not available for rental customers" may be heard.

Recommendation/Instructions:

To obtain OnStar® service for new retail customers on these vehicles, dealers must call the OnStar® Dealer Center (1-888-OnStar1, or 1-888-667-8271). Explain to the advisor that you are enrolling a retail customer in an OnStar® equipped vehicle that was previously in daily rental service. The OnStar® advisor will transfer the vehicle out of a "rental account type" and into a "retail account type". This will enable the customer to have access to all applicable OnStar® safety and/or navigation services.

If the first year of OnStar® service has expired and the system has been deactivated, normal OnStar® reactivation procedures should be followed. Please do not contact OnStar® by way of an Emergency Button Press from the vehicle, to handle this transaction.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
