Test the control circuit of the IP BCM chime request for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Make sure the headlamp and IP lamp dimmer switch is in the off position.
  3. Disconnect the BCM connector C2.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the headlamp and IP lamp dimmer switch circuit at the BCM and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Important: Refer to SIR Caution before working in the steering column.

Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the ignition key alarm switch at the BCM and B+. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

  1. Take the ignition key out of the ignition switch.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the ignition key alarm switch and B+. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Test the control circuit of the headlamp and IP lamp dimmer switch for an open . Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Disconnect C201.
  2. Leave the test lamp at the same location.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the headlamp and IP lamp dimmer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM connector C2. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair a short to ground in the control circuit of the ignition key alarm switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the ignition key alarm switch. Refer to Ignition and Key Alarm Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle and Ignition and Key Alarm Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
