J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the left lower quarter trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Lower Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Remove the foam wrap from the auxiliary TXV.

  4. Object Number: 691624  Size: SH
  5. Remove the auxiliary TXV line clamp screws.
  6. Remove the auxiliary TXV line clamp from the HVAC module assembly.

  7. Object Number: 816452  Size: SH
  8. Remove the nut from the auxiliary TXV line block fitting.
  9. Remove the A/C lines from the auxiliary TXV.
  10. Disconnect the auxiliary TXV solenoid electrical connector.
  11. Important: Cap or tape the open A/C refrigerant lines immediately to prevent contamination of the refrigerant system.

  12. Cap or tape the A/C lines.

  14. Remove the auxiliary TXV to evaporator core bolts.
  15. Remove the auxiliary TXV from the evaporator core.
  16. Important: Cap or tape the open A/C refrigerant lines immediately to prevent contamination of the refrigerant system.

  17. Remove and discard the sealing washers.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the cap or tape from the evaporator lines.
  2. Using a lint-free clean, dry cloth, carefully clean the sealing surface of the evaporator lines and the TXV.
  3. Important: Flat washer type seals do not require lubrication.

  4. Carefully slide the new sealing washers onto the A/C line until seated.

  6. Install the auxiliary TXV to the evaporator core.
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the auxiliary TXV to the evaporator core mounting bolts.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  10. Connect the auxiliary TXV solenoid electrical connector.
  11. Remove the cap or tape from the A/C lines.
  12. Using a lint-free clean, dry cloth, carefully clean the sealing surface of the A/C lines and the TXV.
  13. Carefully slide the new sealing washers onto the A/C line until seated.

  14. Object Number: 816452  Size: SH
  15. Install the auxiliary TXV line block fitting retaining nut.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  17. Install the auxiliary TXV line clamp to the HVAC module assembly.
  18. Install the auxiliary TXV line clamp screw.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.6 N·m (14 lb in).

  20. Install a new foam wrap to the auxiliary TXV.
  21. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  22. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .
  23. Install the left lower quarter trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Lower Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
