Definition: The BCM sounds the key-in-ignition reminder when one or more of the following conditions are present:

    • The key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder
    • The driver's door is closed
    • The ignition switch is in the RUN position

Was the Body Control Module (BCM) System Check performed?

  1. Verify that the instrument panel dimmer switch is turned to the OFF position.
  2. Turn on the override switch to the interior lamps. This enables the interior courtesy lamps.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  4. Lower the driver's window in order to prevent lockout.
  5. Close all vehicle doors.

Are the courtesy lamps off?

  1. Remove the key from the ignition key cylinder.
  2. Using a J 39200 DMM, measure the resistance between the BCM connector C2 terminal D2 and ground.

Is the resistance equal to the specified value?

Infinite

Go to Step 6

  1. Leave the J 39200 DMM connected from the previous step.
  2. Disconnect C201.
  3. Using a J 39200 DMM, measure the resistance again.

Is the resistance equal to the specified value?

Infinite

The key in ignition reminder is always on due to a malfunction between the BCM and the lock ajar switch on the driver's door. Repair the lock ajar switch on the driver's door.

Replace the ignition key alarm switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reinstall the connectors and the components which you removed.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position for 6 seconds.
  4. Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position. The BCM sounds the chime several times equivalent to the BCM type which is installed on the vehicle.
  6. Within 1 second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the LOCK position, then back to the ACC position. The BCM sounds any DTCs stored.
