Important: Use the J 35616 Connector Test Adapter kit if a diagnostic procedure requires testing or probing a terminal. Using the adapter prevents damage to the terminal and indicates if the contact tension is sufficient. .

  1. Place the gear selector in the PARK position.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Use a test lamp in order to backprobe between the stop lamp switch connector C2 terminal A CKT 39 and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Use the test lamp in order to backprobe between the stop lamp switch connector C2 terminal B CKT 1135 and ground.

Repair the faulty connection or the open in CKT 39 between the stop lamp switch connector C2 terminal A and S209.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Use a test lamp to backprobe between the brake transmission shift lock control actuator (BTSI) connector terminal A CKT 1135 and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 6

  1. Test for a faulty connection at the stop lamp switch.
  2. If the connection is OK, adjust or replace the stop lamp switch.Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Adjustment

Use a test lamp in order to backprobe the BTSI connector terminal B CKT 434.

Does the test lamp light?

Go to Step 9

Repair the faulty connection or the open in CKT 1135 between the stop lamp switch connector C2 terminal B and the BTSI connector terminal A.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Test for a faulty connection at the BTSI.
  2. If the connection is OK, replace the BTSI.

Use a test lamp in order to frontprobe between the transaxle range switch connector C1 terminal A CKT 434 and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Repair the faulty connection or the open in CKT 434 between the BTSI terminal B and the transaxle range switch connector C1 terminal A.

Is the repair complete?

Use a test lamp in order to frontprobe the transaxle range switch connector C1 terminal D CKT 451 and B+.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Inspect for a faulty connection at the transaxle range switch.
  2. If the connection is OK, adjust or replace the transaxle range switch. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement
