Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 160967 Size: SH
  1. Install the engine to the transaxle/frame from the engine stand.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the engine-to-transaxle bolts (3, 4, 5 and 6) and studs (1 and 2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the engine-to-transaxle bolts (3, 4, 5 and 6) and studs (1 and 2) to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).

  5. Install the engine flywheel to torque converter bolts. Refer to Flywheel to Torque Converter Bolt Replacement in Automatic Transmission/Transaxle.
  6. Raise and install the frame with the engine/transaxle to the vehicle.
  7. Install the frame-to-body bolts/screws. Refer to Frame Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  8. Remove the transaxle table.
  9. Caution: When installing the intermediate shaft make sure that the shaft is seated prior to pinch bolt installation. If the pinch bolt is inserted into the coupling before shaft installation, the two mating shafts may disengage. Disengagement of the two mating shafts will cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.

  10. Connect the intermediate shaft to steering gear. Refer to Lower/Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  11. Connect the drive axles to the transaxle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Drive Axle.
