Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the valve rocker arm cover(s). Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement.

  2. Object Number: 54392  Size: SH
  3. Remove the rocker arm bolt(s).
  4. Remove the rocker arm(s).
  5. Important: 

       • Place the valve train parts in a rack in order to ensure that they are installed in the same location from which they were removed. Intake pushrods measure 144.18 mm (5.68 in) long. Exhaust pushrods measure 152.51 mm (6.0 in) long.
       • Use care when removing the pushrods. Ensure that the pushrods do not fall into the lifter valley.

  6. Remove the pushrod(s).
  7. Clean and inspect the valve train components. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rods Clean and Inspect .

Installation Procedure

    Important: Coat the bearing surface of the rocker arms, rocker arm bolts, and pushrods with prelube GM P/N 12345501 or GM P/N 88862586 (Canadian P/N 992704 or Canadian P/N 88862586) or equivalent. Install all of the components in the original locations.

  1. Use the following steps in order to install the pushrod(s).
  2. 1.1. Install the intake valve pushrods measure 144.18 mm (5.68 in) long.
    1.2. Install the exhaust valve pushrods measure 152.51 mm (6.0 in) long.
  3. Install the rocker arm(s).
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the rocker arm bolt(s).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the rocker arm bolt to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).

  7. Install the valve rocker arm cover(s). Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement.
