REAR WHEEL HUB & BEARING ASSY. ATTACHING BOLT - INFO.

SUBJECT: REAR WHEEL HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY ATTACHING BOLT- TECHNICAL INFORMATION

MODEL/YEARS: 1990-93 SILHOUETTE

This bulletin serves to cancel and supersede torque specifications for the rear wheel hub and bearing assembly attaching bolts found in Section 3D of the 1990-93 Silhouette Service Manuals. it also supersedes the torque specifications given in Service Manual Update 93-U-36. Please discard Service Manual Update Bulletin 93-U-36. The bolts attach the rear hub and bearing assembly to the rear axle (four on each side).

Rear hub and wheel bearing assembly attaching bolts for all Silhouette's should be torqued using the following guidelines:

o Vehicles manufactured from model year 1990 through 1992 require a torque specification of 63 N-m (46 lb. ft.)

o Vehicles manufactured in 1993 model year and beyond require a torque specification of 82 N-m (61 lb. ft.)

The change is a result of the required torque distinction between unpainted and painted bearing surfaces and not the type of bolt being used.

The 1990-93 Silhouette Service Manual For Section 3D should be updated at the following pages:

1990 3D-6,3D-7 1991 3D-6,3D-7 1992 3D-6,3D-7 1993 3D-5,3D-7

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
