Subject:Search Tips for Locating Preliminary Information (PI) Documents in Service Information (SI)

Models:2004 and Prior Passenger Cars and Trucks
2004 and Prior HUMMER H2

Since June, 2002, technicians have been able to search for full-text PI documents in the English language version of SI. Here are some helpful tips to make your search easier:

  1. At the main page of SI, click on the blue text that reads "or click here to enter a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)".
  2. Next, input the vehicle's VIN in the space provided. Be sure to include ALL 17 characters of the VIN. Then click on Submit.
  3. Next, choose the vehicle under the "Service Manual/Bulletins" title.
  4. When the next screen appears, you will see a keyword search box as well as a list under the heading "Select a category". Using the keyword search is optional, but if you do use it, remember to use words that would be found in the title of the document. If you do not want to use the keyword search, select the link "Preliminary Information" found in the list of categories.
  5. You will now see a list of all PI documents that are available in SI that pertain to the VIN you input. You can then select any or all documents you wish to view.
  6. Important: Most, but not all, PI documents will be found in SI. If you do not find a PI document pertaining to the condition you are experiencing with a particular vehicle, do not hesitate to contact Technical Assistance. TAC will be able to advise you of any additional documents that can aid you in diagnosing and correcting the concern.
