INSTRUMENT CLUSTER EXCHANGE PROGRAM INFORMATION

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1981-1987 MODELS

GM of Canada has an Exchange/Repair Program for servicing, digital display instrument panel assemblies, Quartz speedometers and driver information modules, that become inoperative during the new vehicle warranty period.

The repair and shipping of replacement assemblies is by a selected AC-Delco repair centre specially equipped by GM Canada to diagnose and repair these units.

Exchange assemblies are NOT to be used as a replacement if the following applies:

- Stolen Units - Severely Damaged From Accidents, etc. - Production Error or Shortage

In these latter incidents where a repairable unit cannot be returned, obtain a new assembly from GM Parts.

When it is determined that an assembly is inoperative because of a condition in the cluster, or D.I.C. module, replacement assemblies are available on an exchange basis.

To receive a replacement assembly, follow this procedure:

- Call toll-free on the New Instrument Cluster Exchange Hot Line, 1-800-263-2691 *.

- Supply your Dealer code, Dealer name and address and your name.

- The VIN of the vehicle requiring the assembly.

* At present, this location is staffed by English speaking personnel only.

- The repair order number that will appear on the warranty claim, or a purchase order number for vehicles beyond the new vehicle warranty period.

- Specifics about the vehicle, i.e. Gas vs Diesel, transmission type, console shift, number of cylinders and any relevant options such as trip odometer, gauge options, cruise control, etc.

- A brief description of the condition.

An assembly will be shipped prepaid via courier service (including air express where required) to arrive at the Dealership in the shortest possible time.

You should immediately:

- Remove the assembly from the returnable shipping container.

- Place the enclosed return address label over the previously used label on the box.

- Transfer necessary parts from the inoperative assembly to the new assembly to make it fully functional. Typically, these parts could include bulbs, lens, faceplate, bezel, odometer, odometer chip, etc.

- Enclose with the inoperative assembly a legible copy of the Dealer repair order stating the condition which makes this assembly inoperative.

- Carefully package the inoperative assembly in the protective shipping container.

- Send the inoperative assembly back to:

Custone Auto Radio 1614 Charles St. Whitby, ON LlN lB9

- Ship via prepaid courier service to return the unit by the fastest possible way.

Failure to return the inoperative assembly within 10 calendar days from its shipping date to the Dealer will result in the processing of a debit for the Dealer price of the replacement assembly against the Dealer's parts account.

On occasion, circumstances may arise where the demand for certain exchange units exceeds the available supply. Dealers are advised to contact the repair centre to arrange shipment of the inoperative unit for repair and return.

To help you provide a similar service to customers beyond the new vehicle warranty period, GM Canada is cooperating with Custone Auto Radio. Follow the same procedures except quote a Purchase Order Number when ordering and Custone Auto Radio will bill you directly. The billed amount will consist of the remanufactured price of the cluster requested plus an applicable core charge equal to the current Dealer Net of that particular instrument cluster assembly. The core charge will be credited back to the Dealer upon receipt of the inoperative assembly which should be within 10 calendar days from the shipping date of the new one.

Your cooperation in accurately diagnosing the need for a replacement assembly and in carefully following the ordering/return shipping procedure will make this program successful in eliminating vehicle tie-ups.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
