AC DELCO RADIO REPAIR NEW CAR LIMITED WARRANTY

ALL 1988 MODELS

OLDSMOBILE POLICY

New Car Limited Warranty Basic Coverage

Factory installed radios are included within the coverage of the base warranty period. Radios requiring repair under the warranty must be sent to an authorized AC-Delco Service Center. Refer to the current AC-Delco SD-2 Authorized Service Center Directory for listings of radio service and exchange centers.

Dealer Installed Delco Radios

Delco Radios that are installed by the dealer or are upgraded at a later date are covered under either the 90 day/4000 miles parts warranty or for the remainder of the vehicle's original New Car Limited Warranty Basic Coverage, whichever is greater.

Exchange Program

AC-Delco Radio Service Centers identified by an "EX" in the SD-2 Directory have exchange radios available. However, prior approval of the owner to accept a repaired unit must be obtained and noted on the repair order. This program is very helpful in handling touring owners or an owner who objects to driving with the radio removed.

PROCEDURE

Whether repairing or exchanging the radio, dealers should never refer the owner to the AC-Delco Authorized Service Center, but should handle the transaction for the owner as follows:

o Remove the unit requiring repair from the car, complete all red shaded areas of the Warranty Repair Claim (ACD 1078 A) (Fig. 1) for AC-Delco items and send the unit and all five (5) copies of the completed forms to the authorized AC-Delco Exchange Center or Service Center in your area. The information MUST be typewritten on the ACD 1078 A form.

o The repaired or exchange unit will be returned to your dealership for reinstallation in the owner's vehicle.

OLDSMOBILE WARRANTY CLAIM

The returned unit will have with it the dealer's copy of the AC-Delco form, properly completed. An Oldsmobile Warranty Claim is to be submitted for the R&R of the unit along with the freight charges. The dealer copy of the ACD 1078 A and the freight receipt or shipping invoice are to be retained in accordance with requirements detailed in the current Oldsmobile Service Policies and Procedures Manual.

If the repair is done by the dealer, or sublet to other than an AC-Delco Service Center, credit will be allowed on an Oldsmobile Warranty Claim. Allowances for such repairs are included in the Labor Time Guide. Sublet repair charges should be included on the claim and the sublet bill retained in the usual manner.

An additional 0.2 hour sublet administrative allowance will be paid if applied for when radios are repaired under warranty by an AC-Delco Service Center or another qualified service outlet. This additional time should be added to the published time allowance in the Labor Time Guide and entered in the "labor hours" column of the Oldsmobile Warranty Claim form.

UNUSUAL RADIO INTERFERENCE CONDITIONS

It is the responsibility of the dealership to diagnose and repair radio interference conditions caused by other components on the vehicle. In unusual cases where the dealership has been unable to determine the cause of the interference, it may be necessary to sublet the repairs to an AC- Delco Service Center. The dealership will be responsible for the cost of repairs made by the AC-Delco Service Center. Prior authorization should be obtained for such repairs before the sublet repair costs are submitted on a warranty claim.

"DELCO-GM/BOSE MUSIC SYSTEM" ---------------------------

This system (UU8) is available in the 1988 Ninety-Eight and Toronado. The system consists of a radio receiver and four (4) speaker enclosures, each containing an amplifier module and speaker.

The radio receiver and/or amplifier module should be submitted to the AC- Delco Service Center when a repair is required. Speakers should be serviced separately by the dealership.

Diagnosis of the Delco-GM/Bose Music System is covered in the 1988 Chassis Service Manual.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
