Did you perform the Rear Compartment Lid Release System Check ?

  1. Place the gear selector lever in the PARK position.
  2. Place the valet switch in the UNLOCK position.
  3. Remove the rear compartment lid release relay.
  4. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) between the following terminals:
  5. • Relay connector terminal 86 and ground
    • Relay connector terminal 30 and ground

Is the voltage within the specified range for each voltage test?

10-15V

Go to Step 4

  1. Check fuse 2 in the RH IP fuse block for an open.
  2. Repair CKT 1540 (ORN) for an open or a short to ground.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect a DMM between the rear compartment lid release relay connector terminals 86 and 85.
  2. Place the valet switch in the ON position.
  3. Press the rear compartment lid release switch.

Is the measured voltage in the specified range?

10-15V

  1. Remove the rear compartment lid release relay.
  2. Close the rear compartment lid.
  3. Momentarily connect a fused jumper across rear compartment lid release relay connector terminals 30 and 87.

Does the rear compartment lid open?

  1. Check the rear compartment lid release relay for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the rear compartment lid release relay.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  2. Connect a fused jumper across rear compartment lid release relay connector terminals 30 and 87.
  3. Connect a DMM between rear compartment lid release actuator connector terminal A and ground.

Is the measured voltage in the specified range?

10-15V

Repair CKT 56 (BLK/WHT) for an open.

Is the repair complete?

Connect a DMM between rear compartment lid release actuator connector terminals A and B.

Is the measured voltage in the specified range?

10-15V

  1. Check for poor terminal contact at ground G402.
  2. If OK, repair open circuit in CKT 1350 (BLK).

Is the repair complete?

  1. Check the rear compartment lid release actuator connector for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Release Actuator Replacement.

  1. Connect a fused jumper between relay connector terminals 86 and 85.
  2. Disconnect the valet switch.
  3. Connect a DMM between valet switch connector terminal A and ground.

Is the measured voltage in the specified range?

10-15V

Repair the open in CKT 1344 (LT BLU).

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect a DMM between valet switch connector terminals A and B.
  2. Press the rear compartment lid release switch.

Is the measured voltage in the specified range?

10-15V

  1. Check the valet switch connector for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the valet switch. Refer to Valet Switch Replacement.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect the valet switch.
  2. Place the valet switch in the UNLOCK (ON) position.
  3. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release switch connector.
  4. On Pontiac vehicles, connect a DMM between release switch connector terminal B and ground.
  5. On Buick vehicles, connect a DMM between release switch connector terminal C and ground.
  6. On Oldsmobile vehicles, connect a DMM between release switch connector terminal D and ground.

Is the measured voltage in the specified range?

10-15V

Repair the open in CKT 1576 (BLK).

    • On Pontiac vehicles, connect a DMM between rear compartment lid release switch connector terminals B and A.
    • On Buick vehicles, connect a DMM between rear compartment lid release switch connector terminals C and A.
    • On Oldsmobile vehicles, connect a DMM between rear compartment lid release switch connector terminal D and C.

Is the measured voltage in the specified range?

10-15V

Go to Step 19

  1. Check the rear compartment lid release switch for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch Replacement.

  1. On Pontiac vehicles, connect a fused jumper between rear compartment lid release switch connector terminals B and A.
  2. On Buick vehicles, connect a fused jumper between release switch connector terminals C and A.
  3. On Oldsmobile vehicles, connect a fused jumper between release switch connector terminals D and C.
  4. Disconnect the park/neutral position (PNP) switch connector.
  5. Connect a DMM between PNP switch connector terminal A and ground.

Is the measured voltage in the specified range?

10-15V

Repair the open in CKT 434 (ORN).

Is the repair complete?

Connect a DMM between the park/neutral position (PNP) switch connector terminals A and D.

Is the measured voltage in the specified range?

10-15V

  1. Check for proper terminal contact at ground G101.
  2. If OK, repair the open in CKT 451.

  1. Test for proper terminal contact at the park/neutral position (PNP) switch connector.
  2. If OK, replace the PNP switch. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.

  1. Make sure any components removed during diagnosis are installed in place and that all connectors are connected.
  2. Repeat the system check. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Release System Check
