Power Mirror Switch Replacement Pontiac

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 387148  Size: SH

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the armrest applique.
  3. Insert a small flat-bladed tool at the front of the applique in order to release the retaining clip.

  4. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  5. Loosen the setscrew that attaches the mirror control to the applique.
  6. Remove the power mirror switch.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power mirror switch to the applique.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the set screw for the mirror control.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the set screw to .4 N·m (4 lb in).

  5. Connect the electrical connector.
  6. Install the armrest applique.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the trim panel retaining fasteners from the lower armrest bezel.
  3. Remove the lower armrest bezel.
  4. Using a flat-bladed tool, disengage the switch plate retainer clips.

  5. Insert a small, flat-bladed tool between the switch plate and the trim panel.
  6. Lift the switch plate.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  8. Remove the setscrew.
  9. Remove the mirror switch.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the mirror control switch to the switch plate.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   3. Install the setscrew.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the set screw to .8 N·m (7 lb in).

  5. Connect the electrical connectors.
  6. Install the switch plate in the trim panel.
  7. Push downward the switch plate in order to secure the retaining clips.

  8. Install the lower armrest bezel.
  9. Install the lower armrest bezel fasteners in order to secure.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
