Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical.

  2. Object Number: 289633  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the cruise control cable (2) from the following components:
  4. • The engine bracket
    • The TBI cam
  5. Disconnect the cruise control cable from the module assembly (1).
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the module assembly.

  7. Object Number: 289629  Size: SH
  8. Remove the 2 nuts (1) from the mounting studs.
  9. Remove the module assembly.
  10. Remove the fasteners retaining the module to the mounting bracket.
  11. Remove the module.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the cruise control module to the mounting bracket.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the module fasteners.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 7 N·m (62 lb in).

  5. Install the module assembly on the mounting studs.
  6. Install the 2 nuts (1).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb ft).

  8. Connect the electrical connector to the module (1).
  9. Connect the cruise control cable (2) to the module assembly (1).
  10. Connect the cruise control cable to the following components:
  11. • The engine bracket
    • The TBI cam
  12. Adjust the cruise control cable. Refer to Cruise Control Cable Adjustment .
  13. Install the injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
