Use the key fob to lock then unlock the doors.

Does the fob operate properly?

  1. Disconnect the remote function actuator (RFA) module.
  2. Measure the resistance from the RFA module connector terminal E11 to ground while moving the LH front door lock cylinder switch to the unlock position.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

0-5 ohms

Go to Step 5

  1. Disconnect the LH front door lock cylinder switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from the LH front door lock cylinder switch harness connector terminal A (Buick) or terminal C (Pontiac) to the RFA module connector terminal E11.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

0-5 ohms

Go to Step 7

Measure the resistance from the RFA module connector terminal E11 to ground while moving the RH front door lock cylinder switch to the unlock position.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

5 ohms

Repair the open in CKT 262. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Measure the resistance from the LH front door lock cylinder switch harness connector terminal C (Buick) or terminal B (Pontiac) to ground.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

0-5 ohms

Repair the open in CKT 1250. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the LH front door lock cylinder switch.

Refer to Door Lock Cylinder Replacement in Doors.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disconnect the RH front door lock cylinder switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from the RH front door lock cylinder switch harness connector terminal A (Buick) or terminal C (Pontiac) to the RFA module connector terminal E11.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

0-5 ohms

Go to Step 13

Test for poor terminal contact at the RFA module connector terminal E11.

Refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections Diagnosis in Wiring Systems.

Is the terminal contact OK?
