Backup Lamp Replacement LeSabre

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 299759  Size: SH
  1. Remove the caps covering the backup lamp retaining studs.
  2. Remove the screws at the outer ends of the backup lamp assembly (2).
  3. Remove the screws from the license plate pocket.
  4. Remove the screws that retain the license plate lamps.
  5. Remove the nuts (1) that retain the backup lamp assembly (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 299759  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the nuts (1) in order to retain the backup lamp assembly.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts (1) to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  3. Install the screws in order to retain the license plate lamps.
  4. Install the screws in the license plate pocket.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  6. Install the screws to the outer ends of the backup lamp assembly (2).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

    Important: Do not rework or alter the reflective surface of the taillamps.

  8. Install the caps to the backup lamp retaining studs.

Backup Lamp Replacement 88/LSS

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 299783  Size: SH
  3. Turn the bulb/socket counterclockwise in order to remove from the backup lamp (2).
  4. Remove the bumper fascia. Refer to Rear Bumper Replacement in Bumpers.
  5. Remove the clips (3) that retain the backup lamp (2) to the fascia (1).
  6. Remove the backup lamp (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 299783  Size: SH
  1. Install the backup lamp (2) to the fascia (1).
  2. Install the clips (3) in order to retain the backup lamp (2) to the fascia (1).
  3. Install the rear bumper fascia. Refer to Rear Bumper Replacement in Bumpers.
  4. Turn the bulb/socket clockwise in order to connect the socket to the backup lamp (2).
  5. Lower the vehicle.

Backup Lamp Replacement Pontiac

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 299805  Size: SH
  1. Remove the 2 stage rivets (2) (2 each side) that retain the outboard lamp fillers to the backup lamp assembly (1).
  2. Press the center of the rivet (2) until a click is heard.
  3. Remove the rivet (2) from the filler.
  4. Remove the nuts (3) that retain the backup lamp (1) to the rear compartment lid.
  5. Remove the bulb sockets from the lamp.
  6. Remove the backup lamp (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the bulb sockets to the lamp (1).
  2. Install the backup lamp (1).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Connect the nuts (3) to the lamp.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts (3) to 5 N·m (44 lb in). Tighten the nuts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

  6. Reset the 2 stage rivets (2) so that the center of each rivet (2) is outboard.
  7. Install the rivets (2) to the lamp fillers.
  8. Important: Do not rework or alter the reflective surface of the taillamps.

  9. Press the center of the rivets (2) in order to lock the rivets into position.
