Important: Complete testing of this component can only be performed while it is installed in an operable vehicle. However, a preliminary check of the pressure switches in their normal state can be performed while the transmission is out of the vehicle.

Is the transmission installed in the vehicle?

  1. Disconnect the automatic transmission (A/T) wiring harness assembly from the TFP manual valve position switch.
  2. Using the J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM), measure the resistance from terminal B to the TFP manual valve position switch housing.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

50 ohms

Measure the resistance from terminal D to the TFP manual valve position switch housing.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

50 ohms

Measure the resistance from terminal C to the TFP manual valve position switch housing.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

50 ohms

Measure the resistance from terminal E to the TFP manual valve position switch housing.

Install the transmission into the vehicle.

  1. Install the J 39775 jumper harness on the transmission side of the 20-way connector, if needed.
  2. Using the J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) and the J 35616-A connector test adapter kit, measure the resistance from terminal U to the transmission case.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

50 ohms

  1. Disconnect the A/T wiring harness assembly from the TFP manual valve position switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from terminal D to the TFP manual valve position switch housing.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

50 ohms

Measure the resistance from terminal N to the transmission case.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

50 K ohms

  1. Disconnect the A/T wiring harness assembly from the TFP manual valve position switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from terminal E to the TFP manual valve position switch housing.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

50 K ohms

  1. Disconnect the A/T wiring harness assembly from the TFP manual valve position switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from terminal B to the TFP manual valve position switch housing.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

  1. Disconnect the A/T wiring harness assembly from the TFP manual valve position switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from terminal C to the TFP manual valve position switch housing.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

  1. Start the engine and let the engine idle.
  2. Apply the brakes.
  3. Place the gear selector in PARK.
  4. Measure the resistance from terminal U to the transmission case.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

50 K ohms

  1. Place the gear selector in REVERSE.
  2. Measure the resistance from terminal N to the transmission case.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

50 ohms

  2. Inspect the following circuits of the A/T wiring harness assembly for an open or short:
  3. • 1224 (PNK)
    • 1225 (DK BLU)
    • 1226 (ORN)
    • 1804 (WHT)
