ENG. OIL LEAK - REAR MAIN SEAL (NEW REAR MAIN SEAL RELEASED)

SUBJECT: ENGINE OIL LEAK AT REAR MAIN BEARING CAP SIDE SEAL (INSTALL NEW REAR MAIN BEARING CAP SEAL)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1983-1992 CHEVROLET,PONTIAC,OLDSMOBILE AND BUICK VEHICLES EQUIPPED W/EITHER THE 3.0L, 3.8L, THE 3300 OR 3800 ENGINE VIN ENGINE CODE A,B,C,E,L,N,1,3,7,8,9

A new rear main bearing cap side seal has been released to service all 90 degree V-6 "BUICK" engines. It will no longer be necessary to seal the cap to the block with R.T.V. sealer.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

REMOVE: - Flywheel (1990-92 3800 TPI)

- Oil Pan

- #4 (Rear) Main Bearing Cap

CLEAN: - Side seal area of bearing cap and block

INSTALL: - New Rear Main Bearing Oil "Rope" Seal (All Except 3800 TPI)

- #4 (Rear) Main Bearing Cap in block

- Side seal, part number 24500058, with gray rubber seal material facing the block

NOTE: Use the seal "handle" to guide the seal into place and then tap the "handle" lightly to disengage the "handle" from the seal. Using the "handle" as a wedge, drive it between the cap and block behind the seal. This will wedge the seal against the block. (See Section A-A and View B)

- New Rear Main Seal (1990-92 3800 TPI)

- Flywheel (1990-92 3800 TPI)
