REUSABLE BOTTOM PAN GASKET (GENERAL INFORMATION)

INFORMATION ABOUT THE REUSABLE PAN GASKET - 1991-93 4T60/4T60-E TRANSAXLES (Section No. 7)

All 1991-93 4T60-E transaxles were built with a reusable pan gasket. GM Powertrain introduced this gasket on the 4T60 in June 1991.

The new bottom pan has a flat sealing surface along the pan rail instead of having a continuous raised rib. In addition, a controlled compression reusable pan gasket and new flange head bolts were introduced with the pan. Both the pan and gasket can be used on all Hydra-Matic 4T60/4T60-E transaxles, but only the new bolts can be used with the new pan and not the old style pan. DO NOT use the new bolts with the old pan.

Note: If there is no sign of damage to the pan gasket, do not replace it. The new design pan and gasket allows the gasket to be reused.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
