ENG. OIL LEAK - REAR MAIN SEAL (NEW REAR MAIN SEAL RELEASED)

SUBJECT: ENGINE OIL LEAK AT REAR MAIN BEARING CAP SIDE SEAL - INSTALL NEW REAR MAIN BEARING CAP SEAL

MODELS/YEARS: ALL FLINT PRODUCED 90 DEGREE V-6 ENGINES

A new rear main bearing cap side seal has been released to service all Flint produced 90 degree V-6 engines. It will no longer be necessary to seal the cap to the block with R.T.V. sealer.

The part number for the new seal is 24500058. This part is currently available from GMSPO.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

Remove:

o Flywheel(1990-92 3800 TPI)

o Oil Pan

o #4 (Rear) Main Bearing Cap

Clean:

o Side seal area of bearing cap and block

Install:

o New Rear Main Bearing Oil "Rope" Seal (All Except 3800 TPI)

o #4 (Rear) Main Bearing Cap in block

o Side seal, P/N 24500058, with gray rubber seal material facing the block

Note: Use the seal "handle" to guide the seal into place and then tap the "handle" lightly to disengage the "handle" from the seal. Using the "handle" as a wedge, drive it between the cap and block behind the seal. This will wedge the seal against the block. (See Section A-A and View B).

o New Rear Main Seal (1990-92 3800 TPI)

o Oil Pan

o Flywheel (1990-92 3800 TPI)
