SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE SEC. 6A ROCKER COVER GASKET PROCEDURE

SUBJECT: SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE VALVE ROCKER COVER AND/OR GASKET REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

MODELS/YEARS: 1990-91 CUTLASS CIERA/CUTLASS CRUISER WITH 3300 ENGINE

The following Valve Rocker Cover and/or Gasket replacement procedure updates and replaces the current procedure found in the 1990-91 Cutlass Ciera/Cruiser Service Manuals. Please mark a reference to this bulletin in your copy(s) of the 1990 Service Manual on page 6A6-8 and 1991 on page 6A6-13.

VALVE ROCKER COVER (RIGHT)

Remove or Disconnect: 1. Negative battery cable. 2. Serpentine belt. 3. Power steering belt tensioner brace. 4. Spark plug loom, wires and wire harness, set aside. 5. Power steering pump retaining bolts to mounting bracket, slide pump forward. 6. Retaining nuts and engine lift bracket assembly, set aside. 7. Valve cover retaining bolts, valve cover and gasket.

Assembly Tips:

Clean the valve cover bolts of all thread locking adhesive. Apply thread lock compound, P/N 12345493, currently available from GMSPO or equivalent, to bolt threads.

Install or Connect: 1. New gasket 2. Valve cover and retaining bolts. - Tighten bolts to 1 0 Nm (89 lbs. in.) 3. Engine lift bracket assembly and retaining nuts. - Tighten nuts to 30 Nm (22 lbs. ft.) 4. Power steering pump to mounting bracket and retaining bolts. - Tighten bolts to 27 Nm (20 lbs. ft.) 5. Spark plug wire harness, loom and wires to plugs. 6. Power steering pump belt tensioner brace. - Tighten bolt to 26 Nm (19 lbs. ft.) 7. Serpentine belt. 8. Negative battery cable.
