Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recharging, and Recycling Station

  1. Recover the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  5. Object Number: 367479  Size: MH
  6. Place the HVAC module on a workbench.
  7. Remove the HVAC module. Refer to HVAC Module Assembly Replacement .
  8. Remove the heater core shroud (1) and the straps (4).
  9. Remove the evaporator assembly (17).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 367479  Size: MH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the evaporator assembly.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.4 N·m (12 lb in).

  3. Install the heater core shroud (1) and straps (4).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.4 N·m (12 lb in).

  5. Install the heater core cover (6).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the screw (5) to 1.4 N·m (12 lb in).

  7. Install the floor duct. Refer to Floor Air Outlet Replacement .
  8. Install the instrument panel and the console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  9. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  10. Install the evaporator inlet line.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the inlet fitting to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).

  12. Install the evaporator outlet line.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the outlet fitting to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

  14. Install the drain tube.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Connect the negative battery cable.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  18. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
