Removal Procedure

  1. The blower motor resistor is located in the lower right hand corner of the HVAC module. This resistor is located between the blower motor and the front of the dash.
  2. For information on system wiring, refer to HVAC Blower Controls System Check .

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the right sound insulator.
  5. Remove the blower motor. Refer to Blower Motor and Fan Replacement .
  6. Cut a portion of the dash mat in order to gain access to the rear resistor screw.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connection at the blower resistor.
  8. Remove the blower resistor screws.
  9. Remove the blower motor resistor.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the blower resistor.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the blower resistor screws.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1 N·m (9 lb in).

  5. Replace the portion of the dash mat that you cut during the removal procedure.
  6. Connect the electrical connections at the blower resistor.
  7. Install the blower motor.
  8. Tighten
Tighten the screws to 5 N·m (45 lb in).

  9. Install the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
  11. Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
