Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 39914 Drive Belt Tension Wrench

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Object Number: 54354  Size: SH
  3. Rotate the drive belt tensioner. Use the J 39914 .

  4. Object Number: 63635  Size: SH
  5. Remove the drive belt from the generator pulley.
  6. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Remove the right tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  8. Remove the right splash shield. Refer to Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement in Bumpers.

  9. Object Number: 54356  Size: SH
  10. Remove the tensioner bolt.
  11. Remove the tensioner.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 54356  Size: SH
  1. Install the drive belt tensioner.
  2. Install the tensioner bolt.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the right splash shield. Refer to Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement in Bumpers.
  5. Install the right tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  6. Lower the vehicle.

  8. Rotate the belt tensioner. Use the J 39914 .

  9. Object Number: 63635  Size: SH
  10. Install the drive belt to the generator pulley.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
