Transmission Control Replacement Shift Control Cable

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Remove the negative battery cable.

  2. Object Number: 183358  Size: SH
  3. Remove the cable (4) at the transmission (2) selector lever (3).
  4. Remove the cable at the transaxle cable bracket.
  5. Remove the center console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  6. Remove the cable at the shift control assembly.
  7. Remove the cable grommet at the cowl.
  8. Remove the cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the cable through the cowl and carpet.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the cable grommet and the bolts in the cowl.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the grommet bolts to 2 N·m (17 lb in).

  5. Install the cable (4) at the shift control assembly (3).
  6. Install the center control. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.

  7. Object Number: 183360  Size: SH
  8. Install the cable at the transmission cable brackets (1).
  9. Install the cable at the transmission selector lever (2).
  10. Install the negative battery cable.
  11. Adjust the cable.
  12. Place the shift lever in NEUTRAL. You can find NEUTRAL by rotating the selector shaft clockwise from PARK through REVERSE to NEUTRAL.
  13. Place the shift control assembly in NEUTRAL.
  14. Pull the cable locking clip fully upward.
  15. Push the on the cable adjuster in order to adjust cable in the cable mounting bracket.

Transmission Control Replacement Floor Shift Control

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the shift knob.
  3. Remove the console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  4. Remove the cable at the control lever and the base (1).
  5. Remove the floorshift control (2) bolts.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the floorshift control (2) bolts.
  2. Install the cable at the base and the control lever (1).
  3. Install the console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
  4. Install the shift knob.
  5. Install the negative battery cable.
