NEW SPACER- PLATE INDENTIFICATION TAB-2004R

MODELS/YEARS 1981-88 CUTLASS SUPREME, 1981-89 CUTSTOM CRUISER, 1981-85 EIGHTY-EIGHT, 1981-84 NINETY-EIGHT WITH 2004R TRANSMISSOIN (RPO - MW9)

This bulletin contains information on design changes incorporated into 2004R transmission valve body spacer plates. The Lo/Reverse orifice in the spacer plate has been enlarged to enhance Neutral to Reverse engagement performance of 1988-89 models (See Figure 1).

The revised spacer plates also include a new I.D. location. Previous spacer plates could not be identified while assembled in the transmission because the identification letters were obscured by the valve body. A tab has been added at a different location (shown in Figure 1) and the identification letters are now visible after assembly.

DATE OF PRODUCTION CHANGE: (Figure 2) -------------------------- All THM 200-4R models built after July 7, 1989 (Julian Date 188), were built using the revised spacer plate.

SERVICE PARTS INFORMATION:

All past model spacer plates for service will include the new identification tab when current stock is used up.

The Lo/Reverse feed hole revision only affects THM 200-4R transmission models that were initially built with the Accumulated Neutral to Reverse Garage Shift Package (reference Dealer Technical Bulletin 88-T-145). Part numbers for reversed 1988-89 spacer plates are listed below.

Part numbers and identification letters have not changed. Therefore, when servicing a THM 200-4R spacer plate, order the usual part number and the replacement part will be the updated spacer plate.

Part Number Description Transmission Models ----------- ----------- ------------------- 8669060 Spacer Plate (ID: CH) 8KTF, 9KJF, 9KTF

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
