Radiator Replacement Body Vin Code 6

Tools Required

J 41240 Fan Clutch Wrench

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the coolant from the radiator. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the lower radiator support shield, if equipped. Refer to Radiator Support Shield Replacement in Frame and Underbody.

  3. Object Number: 750179  Size: SH
  4. Remove the transmission cooler lines from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection in Automatic Transmission-4L60-E/4L65-E.
  5. Reposition the outlet radiator hose clamp using J 38185 .
  6. Remove the outlet radiator hose from the radiator.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Remove the cooling fan and shroud. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement .
  9. Remove the grille. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  10. Remove the upper radiator to condensor bolts.

  12. Remove the coolant recovery line from the radiator.
  13. Lift upward on the condensor to remove from the radiator retaining tab.
  14. Remove the radiator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator.
  2. Install the condensor to the radiator retaining tab.

  3. Object Number: 753673  Size: SH
  4. Install the coolant recovery line to the radiator.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the bolts retaining the condenser to the radiator.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  8. Install the grille. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  9. Install the cooling fan and shroud. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement .
  10. Raise the vehicle.

  12. Install the outlet radiator hose (1) to the radiator.

  13. Object Number: 753673  Size: SH
  14. Reposition the outlet radiator hose clamp (1) using J 38185 .
  15. Connect the transmission cooler lines to the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection in Automatic Transmission-4L60-E/4L65-E.
  16. Install the lower radiator support shield, if equipped. Refer to Radiator Support Shield Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the coolant from the radiator. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the lower radiator support shield, if equipped. Refer to Radiator Support Shield Replacement in Frame and Underbody.

  5. Object Number: 750179  Size: SH
  6. Reposition the outlet radiator hose clamp using J 38185 .
  7. Remove the outlet radiator hose (1) from the radiator.
  8. Remove the transmission cooler lines from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection in Automatic Transmission 4L60-E/4L65-E.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Remove the cooling fan and shroud. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement .
  11. Remove the radiator support diagonal brace. Refer to Radiator Support Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.

  13. Remove the coolant recovery line from the radiator.

  14. Object Number: 753683  Size: SH
  15. Disconnect the radiator side panels from the shroud (1).
  16. Remove the radiator.
  17. Remove the bolts retaining the condenser to the radiator.

  13. Install the lower radiator support shield, if equipped. Refer to Radiator Support Shield Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Install the coolant recovery hose to the radiator.
  16. Install the radiator support diagonal brace. Refer to Radiator Support Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
  17. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
