INFO. ON ENGINE OIL USAGE ON VEH. OPER. IN FOREIGN COUNTR.

SUBJECT: INFORMATION ON ENGINE OIL USAGE

MODELS: 1994 GM VEHICLES OPERATED IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES (EXCLUDING CANADA)

SOME OF THE ENGINE OILS RECOMMENDED FOR USE IN GENERAL MOTORS ENGINES ARE NOT AVAILABLE IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES.

THE FOLLOWING CHART OFFERS CUSTOMERS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES A WIDER CHOICE OF MORE COMMONLY AVAILABLE OILS.

CUSTOMERS SHOULD USE OILS DESIGNATED API "SH" OR "SG" ON THE CONTAINER. THESE LETTERS SHOW THE AMERICAN PETROLEUM INSTITUTE (API) LEVELS OF QUALITY. THE DESIGNATION MAY BE SHOWN BY ITSELF OR IN COMBINATION WITH OTHER QUALITY DESIGNATIONS SUCH AS "SH/CD", "SH SG CD", "SG CD", ETC.

THE ENGINE OIL CHANGE INTERVALS IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE BASED ON THE USE OF SG OR SH CLASSIFICATION OILS. IF ONLY SF QUALITY ENGINE OIL IS AVAILABLE, THE OIL SHOULD BE CHANGED MORE FREQUENTLY THAN RECOMMENDED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. DO NOT USE SA, SB, SC, SD, OR SE ENGINE OILS.

NOTE: THE USE OF ENGINE OILS THAT DO NOT HAVE EITHER THE API SH OR SG DESIGNATION MAY CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE THAT MAY NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY.

GENERAL MOTORS BULLETINS ARE INTENDED FOR USE BY PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIANS, NOT A "DO-IT-YOURSELFER". THEY ARE WRITTEN TO INFORM THOSE TECHNICIANS OF CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR ON SOME VEHICLES, OR TO PROVIDE INFORMATION THAT COULD ASSIST IN THE PROPER SERVICE OF A VEHICLE. PROPERLY TRAINED TECHNICIANS HAVE THE EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND KNOW-HOW TO DO A JOB PROPERLY AND SAFELY. IF A CONDITION IS DESCRIBED, DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE BULLETIN APPLIES TO YOUR VEHICLE, OR THAT YOUR VEHICLE WILL HAVE THAT CONDITION. SEE A GENERAL MOTORS DEALER SERVICING YOUR BRAND OF GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLE FOR INFORMATION ON WHETHER YOUR VEHICLE MAY BENEFIT FROM THE INFORMATION.
