Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 740349  Size: SH
  1. For the Oldsmobile, remove the screws from under the instrument panel (IP) compartment door.

  2. Object Number: 740342  Size: SH
  3. Open the IP compartment door.
  4. Remove the IP compartment screws.

  5. Object Number: 778684  Size: SH
  6. Pull the IP compartment rearward.
  7. Disconnect the IP compartment lamp from the compartment. Feed the lamp through the opening.

  8. Object Number: 778671  Size: SH
  9. Remove the IP compartment. Pontiac shown, Oldsmobile similar.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 778671  Size: SH
  1. Position the IP compartment to the IP. Pontiac shown, Oldsmobile similar.

  2. Object Number: 778684  Size: SH
  3. Route the IP compartment lamp through the opening in the IP compartment. Push the lamp into place until fully seated.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the IP compartment screws.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  7. Close the IP compartment door.
  8. For the Oldsmobile only, install the screws under the IP compartment door.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
