J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 590058  Size: SH
  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the right wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Body Front End.
  4. Remove the evaporator hose assembly nut from the accumulator.
  5. Remove the evaporator hose assembly from the accumulator.
  6. Remove and discard the Seal washer.

  8. Remove the bolt holding the evaporator hose assembly to the condenser.
  9. Remove the evaporator hose assembly from the condenser.
  10. Remove and discard the Seal washer.

  11. Object Number: 590061  Size: SH
  12. Remove the evaporator hose assembly from the evaporator.
  13. Remove and discard the Seal washer.
  14. Unfasten the two clips holding the evaporator hose assembly.
  15. Remove the evaporator hose assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 590061  Size: SH
  1. Reposition the evaporator hose assembly.
  2. Fasten the two clips holding the evaporator hose assembly.
  3. Coat the New Seal washer with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  4. Install a NEW Seal washer on evaporator hose assembly evaporator end.
  5. Install the evaporator hose assembly to the evaporator.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the evaporator hose assembly nut to the evaporator.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting nut to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Coat the Seal washer with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  11. Install a NEW Seal washer on condenser end of the evaporator hose assembly.
  12. Install the evaporator hose assembly to the condenser.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  14. Coat the New Seal washer with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  15. Object Number: 590058  Size: SH
  16. Install a NEW Seal washer on the accumulator end of the evaporator hose assembly.
  17. Install the evaporator hose assembly to the accumulator.
  18. Install the evaporator hose assembly nut to the accumulator.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  20. Install the right front fender liner. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Body Front End.
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22. Recharge the refrigerant system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  23. Leak test the fittings of the repaired or reinstalled component using the J 39400-A .
