Radiator Surge Tank Replacement LA1

Tools Required

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

  2. Object Number: 499137  Size: SH
  3. Use theJ 38185 in order to reposition the hose clamps on top of the surge tank.
  4. Disconnect the coolant hoses on top of the surge tank.
  5. Remove the radiator surge tank bolt.

  6. Object Number: 499129  Size: SH
  7. Use theJ 38185 in order to repositon hose clamp on the coolant return hose.
  8. Disconnect the coolant return hose.

  9. Object Number: 499132  Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the low coolant switch connector from the surge tank.
  11. Remove surge tank.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position surge tank in the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 499132  Size: SH
  3. Connect the low coolant switch connector to the surge tank.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the surge tank bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Connect the coolant return hose.
  8. Use theJ 38185 in order to reposition clamp to secure coolant return hose.

  9. Object Number: 499137  Size: SH
  10. Connect the coolant hoses to the radiator surge tank.
  11. Use theJ 38185 in order to reposition hose clamps to secure coolant hoses to surge tank.
  12. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
