Caution:  When a hood hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

1. Open and support the hood.
2. Use a small, flat-bladed tool to lift up the retainer clips on the hood assist rod.




Notice: In order to avoid damaging the hood assist rod, apply pressure at the end of the hood assist rod before removing or attaching the rod. Do not apply pressure to the mid-section of the hood assist rod when removing or installing.

3. Remove the upper end of hood assist rod from the ball joint on hood.
4. Remove the lower end of the hood assist rod from the ball joint on the lower hood hinge.

Notice: In order to avoid damaging the hood assist rod, apply pressure at the end of the hood assist rod before removing or attaching the rod. Do not apply pressure to the mid-section of the hood assist rod when removing or installing.

1. Press the upper end of hood assist rods to the ball joint on hood.
2. Install the lower end of the hood assist rods to ball joint on the lower hood hinge
3. Install the retainer clips onto the rod ends.
4. Remove the support from the hood.
5. Close the hood.
