Power Steering Return Hose Replacement 2.4L

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 490384  Size: SH
  1. Remove the upper air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 2.4L.
  2. Remove the power steering return hose (2) and the clamp (5) from the power steering pump (1).
  3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  5. Remove the power steering pressure hose (1) from the power steering gear (3).
  6. Remove the power steering return hose (2) from the power steering gear (3).
  7. Remove the power steering return hose (2) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 639559  Size: SH

    Notice: The inlet and outlet hoses must not be twisted during installation. Do not bend or distort the inlet or outlet hoses to make installation easier. Failure to follow these procedures could result in component damage.

  1. Install the power steering return hose (2) to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the power steering return hose (2) to the power steering gear (3).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Install the power steering pressure hose (1) to the power steering gear (3).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  7. Lower the vehicle.

  9. Install the power steering return hose (2) and the clamp (5) to the power steering pump (1).
  10. Install the upper air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 2.4L.
  11. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Power Steering Return Hose Replacement 3.4L

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 648319  Size: SH
  1. Remove the power steering hose retaining nut (1) and the retaining bracket (2).

  2. Object Number: 441201  Size: SH
  3. Remove the power steering return hose (3) from the power steering pump (1).
  4. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the retaining bolt and screw from the cooler pipe brackets.
  6. Remove the power steering return hose (3) from the retainer (6).
  7. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .
  8. Remove the power steering return hose (3) from the power steering gear (5).
  9. Remove the power steering return hose (3) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering return hose (3) to the power steering gear (5).
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  3. Install the power steering pressure hose to the power steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement
  4. Install the power steering return hose (3) to the retainer (6).
  5. Install the retaining bolt and screw to the cooler pipe brackets.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Install the power steering return hose (3) to the power steering pump (1).

  9. Object Number: 648319  Size: SH
  10. Install the power steering hose retaining bracket (2) and the retaining nut (1).
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 50 N·m (37 lb in).

  12. Ensure the power steering hose has sufficient clearance from the exhaust manifold.
  13. Bleed the air from the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
