Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .
  3. Support radiator.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove lower closeout panel.
  6. Drain the engine oil.
  7. Drain cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  8. Remove engine splash shields. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  9. Remove the flywheel inspection shield.
  10. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  11. Remove the A/C compressor lower bolts. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual.

  13. Remove the brace (3) which supports the transmission to the engine.
  14. Remove the radiator outlet pipe. Refer to Engine Coolant Inlet Pipe Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  15. Remove right ball joint castle nut and separate from steering knuckle.
  16. Remove castle nut and separate right tie rod end from steering knuckle.
  17. Support frame with suitable jack.
  18. Remove front and rear transmission mount nuts/bolts.
  19. Loosen left side frame bolts.
  20. Remove right side frame bolts.
  21. Lower frame for clearance to remove oil pan.

  23. Remove the bolt and the nut which secure the oil pan to the transmission.
  24. Remove the transmission stud and spacer for clearance.
  25. Remove the oil pan bolts.
  26. Remove the oil pan and gasket.
  27. Clean the engine block and oil pan surfaces. Refer to Oil Pan Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 33652  Size: SH
  1. Install the oil pan, gasket and bolts.
  2. Position spacer between oil pan and transmission, but allow clearance to tighten oil pan bolt directly above the spacer.

  3. Object Number: 60805  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Tighten the oil pan bolts as shown in the illustration.
  5. Tighten

        • Tighten the M8 x 1.25 x 80 bolt (1) to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).
        • Tighten the M8 x 1.25 x 22 bolt (2) to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).
        • Tighten the M6 x 1.00 x 25 bolt (3) to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
        • Tighten the oil pan to housing bolt (4) to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).
  6. Install the stud which secures the oil pan to the transmission.
  7. Install the nut and bolt to secure oil pan to transmission.
  8. Tighten

        • Tighten bolt to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).
        • Tighten nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
  9. Raise frame to original position.
  10. Install right side frame bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten frame bolts to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).

  12. Remove frame support jack.
  13. Install front and rear transmission mount nuts/bolts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten nuts/bolts to 120 N·m (89 lb ft).

  15. Install tie rod and castle nut to steering knuckle.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  17. Install ball joint and castle nut to steering knuckle.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten nut to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).

  19. Install the radiator outlet pipe. Refer to Engine Coolant Inlet Pipe Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  20. Install the brace which supports the transmission to the engine.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the engine to transmission brace bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft) in sequence.

  22. Install the A/C compressor bolts. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual.
  23. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  24. Install the flywheel inspection shield.
  25. Install the engine splash shields. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  26. Install the right front wheel and tire assembly.
  27. Install lower closeout panel.
  28. Lower the vehicle.
  29. Remove the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .
  30. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  31. Fill the crankcase with oil to the appropriate level. Use recommended oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  32. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
