SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE - W41 OPTION INFORMATION

SUBJECT: SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE - W41 OPTION INFORMATION

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1993 "N" MODELS WITH 2.3L ENGINE (VIN A, RPO LGO)

This is a service manual update to Sections 3, 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, 5-5F, 6A7, 6D3, 6F and 8C.

W41 OPTION INFORMATION

Section 3:

o New 14 x 6.5" aluminum wheel.

o New 215/60 VR 14" high speed rated tires.

o Trim height will not be affected.

Section 3A:

o Alignment specifications: will not change.

Section 3B:

o Restrictive power steering gear: limits the steering gear lock to lock travel. Service will not be impacted.

Section 3C:

o Coil spring rates: the coil spring rate will be increased from 20 N/mm to 24 N/mm. Service will not be impacted.

o Front stabilizer shaft has increased in diameter from 21.5mm to 30mm. Service will not be impacted.

Section 3D:

o Twin rear stabilizer shaft: addition of a twin stabilizer over the base suspension, or an additional lower stabilizer shaft over the FE3 suspension.

Stabilizer Shaft - Lower (See Figure 1)

Remove or disconnect -

1. Raise vehicle and support body with jack stands. Refer to Section OA.

2. Insulator nuts and isolator clamps.

3. Lower stabilizer shaft.

Install or connect -

1. Lower stabilizer shaft.

2. Insulator nuts and isolator clamps.

o Tighten insulator nuts to 22 N.m (16 lbs. ft.).

o Tighten isolator clamps to 3.75 N.m (33 lbs. in.).

3. Lower vehicle.

Stabilizer Shaft - Upper (See Figure 1)

Remove or disconnect -

1. Raise vehicle and support body with jack stands. Refer to Section OA.

2. Lower stabilizer shaft. Refer to "Stabilizer

3. Shaft - Lower", in this section.

4. Nuts and bolts.

5. Upper stabilizer shaft.

Install or connect -

1. Upper stabilizer shaft.

2. Nuts and bolts.

3. Tighten nuts to 22 N. m (161 bs. ft.).

4. Lower stabilizer shaft. Refer to "Stabilizer

5. Shaft - Lower", in this section.

6. Lower vehicle.

Section 5-5F

o Brake system, hose and cable routing: will not change.

Section 6A7

o The W41 camshaft has a different profile than the standard 2.3L camshaft. There is no affect on service procedures.

Section 6D3

o Improved durability generator. There is no affection service procedures.

Section 6F

o Low back pressure exhaust. All changes are internal. Service will not be affected.

Section 8C

o The 140 mph speedometer and extended redline tachometer will not affect service.
