- Apply gasket paste GM P/N 12346004 to the plug before installation.
- Install the engine block coolant drain plug.
- Apply gasket paste GM P/N 12345493 to the plugs before installation.
- Install the cooling jacket core plugs.
- Drive the plugs into the block until they are flush using a drift that closely matches the inside diameter of the plug.
- Apply gasket paste GM P/N 12346004 to the front oil passage plug.
- Install the front oil passage plug.
- Install the engine front cover alignment dowels.
- Apply gasket paste GM P/N 12346004 to the upper oil passage plug before installation.
- Install the upper oil passage plug.
- Apply gasket paste GM P/N 12346004 to the right side oil passage plug before installation.
- Install the right side oil passage plug.
- Apply gasket paste GM P/N 12346004 to the rear oil passage plugs before installation.
- Install the rear oil passage plugs.
- Install the camshaft rear cover.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the coolant jacket plug to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
Important: The front oil passage plug is a special type with a lubrication hole for the timing chain. Do not install any other type of plug in this oil passage.

Tighten the oil passage plug to 21 N·m (15 lb ft).

- Install the cooling jacket core plugs.
- Drive the plugs into the block until they are flush using a drift that closely matches the inside diameter of the plug.
- Install the front oil passage plug and the engine front cover alignment dowels.
- Apply thread sealer to the plug.
- Do not install any other type of plug in this oil passage.
- Apply thread sealer to the plug.
- Install the upper oil passage plug.
- Apply thread sealer to the plug.
- Install the right side oil passage plug.
- Apply thread sealer to the plugs before installation.
- Install the rear oil passage plugs.
- Install the camshaft rear cover.
