Circuit Description

The adjustable pedal motor control circuits are controlled through the adjustable pedal relay. The adjustable pedal relay may be controlled by either the driver seat module (DSM) or the adjustable pedal switch. In an inactive state both of the relay switch contacts are closed to the ground circuit. The relay coils are energized when battery voltage is supplied through the relay control circuits by the DSM or the adjustable pedal switch. When the forward control or rearward control relay coil is energized the appropriate motor control circuit is switched to the battery voltage supply circuit contact.

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

Conditions for Running the DTC

Battery voltage to the seat module must be within 7-16 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The DSM detects one of the following conditions on either of the adjustable pedal relay control circuits:

    • An open or short to voltage while the DSM output is in an inactive state
    • A short to ground while the DSM output is in an active state

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The adjustable pedal system will be disabled.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The DTC will be stored as a history code when the fault is no longer present.
    • A history DTC will be cleared after completing 100 consecutive ignition cycles, or by using the scan tool clearing DTCs feature.

Diagnostic Aids

If the DTC is only found in history, the fault may be intermittent. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Display the driver seat module current DTCs.

Is the DTC current?

Go to Step 4

  1. Clear the driver seat module (DSM) history DTCs.
  2. Set a memory pedal position near the center of the pedal travel.
  3. Recall the memory pedal position from the forward stop and from the rearward stop.

Does the DTC reset?

Operate the adjustable pedal switch in both directions.

Does the pedal assembly function in both directions?

  1. Disconnect the driver seat to body harness inline connector.
  2. Operate the adjustable pedal switch in both directions.

Does the pedal assembly function in both directions?

  1. Disconnect the adjustable pedal assembly connector.
  2. Using a test lamp connected to battery voltage, probe each of the relay control circuit terminals from the adjustable pedal switch in the harness connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate on either circuit?

Using a test lamp connected to battery voltage, probe each of the relay control circuit terminals from the DSM in the adjustable pedal assembly harness connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate on either circuit?

  1. Disconnect the adjustable pedal assembly connector.
  2. Using a test lamp connected to ground, probe each of the relay control circuit terminals from the adjustable pedal switch in the harness connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate on either circuit?

Using a test lamp connected to ground, probe each of the relay control circuit terminals from the DSM in the adjustable pedal assembly harness connector.
